Where to Eat When We Play Tourist in PEI: Sea Rocket Restaurant

Sometimes you just need to ditch the to-do list, grab your keys, and play tourist in your own backyard. And when that backyard happens to be Prince Edward Island? Well, you do it right.
For me, that means heading straight to Sea Rocket in Charlottetown—a place that feels like summer, tastes like the ocean, and leaves you wondering why you don’t eat here every single week.
That First Step Inside

The second you walk up to the doors, you know you’ve landed somewhere special. Inside, the décor is a burst of sunshine yellow and ocean blue, like the Island bottled up the perfect beach day and splashed it on the walls.
It’s relaxed but polished—somewhere you can show up in flip-flops after the beach or in your favourite dress for date night. And when the sea breeze drifts in from the harbour, you just know this is going to be one of those “life is good” kind of meals.
The Food That Stopped Me in My Tracks
We started where all great PEI meals start: oysters on the half shell. Freshly shucked, briny, and kissed with lemon. A little hot sauce for the brave. (Yes, I am that person.)

Next up? The kind of seafood chowder that makes you forget any other chowder exists. Creamy, rich, and loaded—not sprinkled—with lobster, salmon, scallops, mussels and PEI potatoes. It’s like a hug in a bowl.
But then came the dish that made me stop mid-conversation: perfectly seared scallops with pork belly. The scallops are sweet, buttery perfection; the pork belly is smoky and crispy with just the right chew. Together? They’re basically the love story of the PEI food scene.
Why Sea Rocket Hits Different
Let’s be real—Charlottetown is stacked with great restaurants. But Sea Rocket? It has this thing.
The ingredients are pulled from PEI’s backyard—fresh, local, and so good you’ll want to hug your fisherman.
The location is prime, and vibe here? Unreal.
The menu is where comfort food meets creative genius.
The people love what they do, and you can taste it in every single bite.
Insider Tips for Your Visit
If you’re coming, book ahead—no matter what time of year, this place fills up faster than a lobster trap in July. Go early if oysters are on your hit list (trust me, they should be).
And whatever you do… order the scallops. You will dream of them after you leave.
Playing Tourist, Nine02 Style
For me, “playing tourist” isn’t just about eating out—it’s about soaking in every drop of what makes this Island magic. It’s walking the boardwalk like it’s your first time here, tasting something you’ve never ordered before, and slowing down enough to notice the way the light hits the water.
That’s what we do at Nine02 Travel Hub—we play tourist so we can help guests experience that side of PEI. The side locals fall in love with over and over again. So that every guest no matter if they are here for one day or one week we can curate a magical experience.

Sea Rocket isn’t just dinner—it’s an East Coast moment. One you’ll want to take home with you… though I can’t promise the scallops will make it past the harbour.
