Planning a dreamy getaway to Prince Edward Island and bringing your four-legged co-pilot? We love that for you.

At Nine02, we believe your dog deserves a vacation too—red sand between their toes, salty air in their fur, and all the snuggles by the firepit. But traveling with a pet comes with its own set of rules.

From car ride prep to beach safety, here are 5 bite-sized tipsĀ to make your PEI stay stress-free, paw-approved, and totally unforgettable.

  1. The Ultimate Pet-Friendly Packing List for PEI

If your dog has ever chewed your only leash in the middle of nowhere (we've been there!)—you know the drill. Here’s what you need (and then some):

  • Leash + backup

  • Collapsible food and water bowls

  • Towels for sandy/muddy paws

  • Poop bags (you’ll need more than you think)

  • Their fave toy or blanket

  • Vet records or proof of rabies vax

Nine02 Pro Tip:Ā Gravol helps with motion sickness, and Benadryl can soothe allergic reactions from bug bites or unexpected plant sniffing. But never wing the dosage. Call your vet before you hit the road.

  1. Beach Time Boundaries

I know PEI beaches are what postcards are made of—but your pup needs limits, even on vacation.

Here’s how to beach smarter:

  • ā˜€ļø Time it right:Ā Early mornings and evenings are best to avoid the scorching sand and midday heat. We love going in the evening to allow our fur baby to let off steam before a good night sleep!

  • 🐾 Pack shade: Umbrellas, pop-up tents, or just pick a beach with natural cover

  • šŸ’¦ Bring fresh water: Salt water is notĀ a substitute (and can make them sick)

  • šŸ•ā€šŸ¦ŗ Respect leash laws: Some beaches are pet-friendly, but not all are off-leash zones

  • 🧼 Rinse off after: Sand + salt = itchy skin and irritated paws

Not all beaches are pet-friendly, please be sure to check out nine02.ca/pet for a list of pet friendly PEI beaches.

3. Make Travel Day Less Ruff

Whether you’re crossing the bridge or hopping on the ferry, travel day can get… hairy. A few key tricks will help everyone stay sane.

  • Feed a light meal 4–6 hours pre-trip (if your fur baby doesn't get car sick)

  • Keep music low and energy calm in the car

  • Stop every 1–2 hours for potty/stretch breaks

  • Bring a bed or blanket that smells like home

  • Chew toys are your best friend

Motion sickness? That’s where your vet-approved Gravol comes in. Because nothing says ā€œIsland getawayā€ like cleaning up dog puke mid-drive. Be sure to check with your vet on proper dosage.

4. Keep Calm & Paw On

Travel can be stressful for pets—new smells, new beds, new everything. But a few comfort items from home can make a world of difference.

  • Bring their regular food (no surprise tummy issues, please)

  • Don’t switch up routines too much

  • Add a calming treat or oil to their daily kit if needed

  • Let them explore the new place slowly

At Nine02, we design spaces where both humans and pets can feel grounded. Open-concept kitchens, cozy corners, and safe outdoor areas? Check.

5. Not All Rentals Are Created Equal

Let’s be honest: not all ā€œpet-friendlyā€ places actually likeĀ pets. But here? We do. Many of our Nine02 properties are pet friendly. You will know which ones are pet friendly with the dog image.

Most of our properties provide the following:

  • Pet towels + bowls

  • Easy access to trails and beaches

  • Cozy nooks & beds for post-adventure naps

So yes—your dog is part of the storyĀ here. And we wouldn’t have it any other way.
